Art. 625 Transfer of defendant in custody

When a criminal case gets moved to a different parish, and the defendant is currently locked up, the local sheriff has to transfer that person right away to the sheriff in the new parish. This happens as soon as the judge approves the change of venue.

The sheriff in the new parish then takes over responsibility for holding the defendant. That sheriff keeps the person in custody until a judge gives further instructions.
