Art. 64 Relationship of district attorney with grand jury

The district attorney works closely with the grand jury and acts as its lawyer, giving advice on legal matters. This means the prosecutor has the right to be told about every grand jury meeting and can attend those sessions.

There's one big exception though. The district attorney has to leave the room when the grand jury is actually deciding a case and voting on it. Those discussions and decisions stay private, between the grand jury members only.

The district attorney also handles questioning witnesses who come before the grand jury. So while the prosecutor guides the legal process and asks questions of witnesses, the final decision making happens without them in the room.
