XXIII § 33 Limitations on Former Attorney Members.

When someone finishes serving as an attorney member on the Commission, they cannot immediately turn around and represent judges in cases before that same Commission. They have to wait two years after their term ends before they can act as a lawyer for a judge who is being investigated or facing charges.

This rule exists to prevent conflicts of interest. Someone who recently sat on the Commission and helped make decisions about judicial conduct cases shouldn't be able to use that insider knowledge or those relationships to help a judge as a defense lawyer right away. The two-year waiting period creates some distance between their time on the Commission and any work they might do defending judges in similar proceedings.

This matters for judges facing disciplinary issues because it affects who they can hire as their attorney. If a judge wants to bring on a lawyer who recently served on the Commission, that lawyer may not be eligible to take the case until enough time has passed.
