III § 5 First Volume of Record

When a court case record has more than one volume, the papers need to be organized in a specific order. Volume 1 should hold the main paperwork: pleadings, documents, exhibits, court orders, minutes, the judge's reasons and judgment, any petitions or motions with their orders, and the appeal bond. This keeps the key legal documents together in one place.

Witness testimony and other evidence go into Volume 2, and into more volumes after that if there's too much to fit. This keeps the testimony and evidence separate from the main case documents, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Every single volume, no matter how many there are, must include a complete index of the whole record. This means you can pick up any volume and still find a full table of contents showing where everything is located across all the volumes.
