IV § 6 Appendix to the Brief

Courts don't want you to attach exhibits or a separate appendix to your brief. This isn't the normal way to do things, and judges prefer briefs without extra attachments.

If you believe you truly need to include a separate appendix for the court to understand your case, you can't just attach it. You have to file a separate motion asking the court for permission first. This motion has to be bound separately from your brief.

If the court allows it, there's a limit on how much you can include. In civil cases, the exhibits in your appendix can't be more than 25 pages long. This keeps the appendix from becoming a way to sneak in extra arguments or evidence beyond what the page limits on your actual brief allow.
