If both houses of the Louisiana legislature pass a resolution saying there is probable cause to believe a judge is unable to do their job, the Louisiana Supreme Court must receive that resolution. Once the court gets it, the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana has only 72 hours to act. Within that short window, the Commission must meet and start holding a hearing to look into the question of whether the judge is truly unable to serve.

This rule sets a fast timeline so concerns about a judge's ability to work don't sit unresolved. It also puts the responsibility on the Judiciary Commission to gather evidence and examine the situation closely, rather than just relying on the legislature's initial resolution. For the judge involved, this means the process to review their fitness for office begins quickly and is handled through a formal hearing where evidence is presented.
