If you want to ask the Louisiana Supreme Court to review a lower court decision in a case involving children (like custody, adoption, termination of parental rights, or CINC cases), you need to act fast. You have 14 days from the date the court mails notice of the judgment or denial of a rehearing to file your writ application. Some cases may have even shorter deadlines if another law says so.

When you file, you must clearly mark what type of case it is on both the writ application filing sheet and the civil priority filing sheet. This helps the court know it's dealing with a child-related matter that needs quick attention.

If someone wants to oppose your writ application, they only get 7 days after you file it to submit their opposition. These deadlines are strict. The court will not grant extra time for either filing the application or responding to it, so missing these windows can cost you your chance to be heard.
