Rule 402 General Admissibility of Relevant Evidence

If evidence relates to the case and helps prove or disprove something important, a judge can allow it to be used in court. This is the basic idea behind how evidence works in Michigan courts.

However, even relevant evidence can be blocked if the U.S. Constitution, the Michigan Constitution, or other court rules say it should not be allowed. Evidence that has nothing to do with the case cannot be used at all.
