Rule 5.09 Cost Bond

If you want to appeal a case, you usually have to pay the court costs first. This includes costs from the original case and the costs expected for the appeal. The circuit court clerk figures out how much this will be.

The only way around this is if the court lets you appeal "in forma pauperis." This means the court agrees you don't have enough money to pay these costs, so you're allowed to skip paying them.

If you and the other side disagree about the cost amount or whether you should have to pay, you can ask the court to step in and settle the dispute.
