Rule 6 Approval of Agreement by Tribunal

If you and the other side work things out through collaborative law, you don't have to just take each other's word for it. A judge can review the agreement you reached and formally approve it. This turns your private agreement into something the court recognizes and can enforce.

This matters because it gives your agreement legal weight. Once a judge signs off on it, the agreement becomes part of the official court record. If someone later doesn't follow through on what was agreed, you have a court-approved document to point to, not just a private contract between the parties.

This step is simple but important. It connects the collaborative process, which happens outside the courtroom, to the court system itself. You still get to work out your own solutions with the other side, but you also get the backing of the court once everyone agrees on the terms.
