Rule 25.3 Denial by Operation of Law

If someone asks the court for a new trial or asks the court to cancel a judgment, that request has to be dealt with quickly. If the judge doesn't rule on the motion within 30 days after it's filed, the law treats it as automatically denied. This keeps cases from sitting around forever without a decision.

There's some flexibility, though. Both sides can agree in writing, or the judge can decide, to push the deadline back. But even with an extension, the new deadline can't go past 90 days from when the motion was originally filed. If the judge still hasn't ruled by that later date, the motion is automatically considered denied at that point.

The rule also allows the deadline to be extended more than once, as long as everything still wraps up within that 90 day window. This means people can't leave these motions hanging indefinitely. Once the time runs out, the case moves forward as if the motion had been officially turned down, even if no judge ever wrote a formal ruling.
