Rule 4-211 Split custody.

When parents split up their children, meaning each parent has one or more of the kids living with them most of the time, this is called split custody. This is different from situations where all the children live mainly with one parent, or where custody is shared equally for all the kids.

To figure out child support in these cases, you use Worksheet 2. This worksheet calculates support separately based on which children live with which parent. Each parent's income and expenses get factored in for the children in their care, and then the two amounts are compared to figure out who owes what.

If you're in a split custody situation, expect the math to look a little different than a typical child support case. The worksheet accounts for the fact that both parents are directly supporting some of the children day to day, so the final support amount reflects that shared responsibility.
