When a child lives with someone other than their parents, like a grandparent or other relative, both parents still have to pay child support. The court will use a standard worksheet to figure out how much each parent owes.

Instead of paying each other, both parents pay their share directly to the person the child is living with. This makes sure the person taking care of the child gets financial help from both parents to cover the child's needs.
