Rule 6-1404 Stipulations.

If you and the other side agree to something in your case, that agreement needs to be in writing and signed by both parties or their lawyers. This applies to any deal, understanding, or agreement you make outside of court.

The only exception is if you make the agreement out loud in front of the judge during a court proceeding. In that case, it's recorded as part of the official court record, so it doesn't need a separate written document.

This rule exists to protect everyone involved. Verbal agreements made outside of court can be misremembered, disputed, or denied later. Having a signed written record means there's no confusion about what was actually agreed to, and it gives the court something solid to rely on if a disagreement comes up later about what was promised.
