If you make a mistake when filing or serving court papers electronically, the court doesn't have to automatically punish you for it. As long as you made a real, honest effort to follow the filing rules, the judge has the option to overlook small errors that don't actually hurt anyone else in the case.

This means the mistake can't be the kind that affects the court's basic authority to hear the case (that's what "nonjurisdictional" means). It also means no other party can show they were harmed or put at a disadvantage because of the error. If both of those things are true, the judge can simply excuse the problem and let the case move forward.

This rule exists to keep small paperwork or technical mistakes from derailing a case when everyone was acting in good faith. It gives judges flexibility to focus on fairness instead of punishing honest mistakes that don't cause real problems.
