Rule 6-502 Disposal of exhibits.

When a court case ends, exhibits like documents, photos, or physical items used as evidence often need to be dealt with. If nobody has come to pick up these exhibits under the process described in Rule 6-501, court clerks or official court reporters are allowed to get rid of them.

They can't just throw exhibits away however they want, though. They have to follow specific rules set by the State Records Administrator. These rules tell courts how long to keep different types of records and when it's okay to dispose of them.

For people involved in a court case, this means exhibits won't sit around forever. If you had evidence submitted in a case and want it back, you need to claim it within the proper timeframe. Otherwise, the court has the authority to dispose of it according to the state's official schedule.
