When you send a document to the court by fax, that faxed copy counts as the official filing. You don't need to mail or bring in a paper original for the court to accept it.

However, you still need to hold on to the actual original document you faxed. Keep it safe for as long as the case could possibly stay in the appeals process, which can take a long time. The only exception is if a judge specifically tells you to do something different with it.

This matters because if any questions ever come up about what you actually filed, like whether the fax was accurate or complete, you may need to produce that original document. Losing it or throwing it away too soon could cause problems for your case later on.
