If a lawyer is okay with getting legal papers by fax from someone who isn't a lawyer, they need to show it clearly. They do this by listing their fax number right along with their name, address, and phone number on documents filed in the case.

This matters because it tells everyone involved that the lawyer accepts this method of receiving papers. If the fax number isn't listed this way, the lawyer hasn't agreed to accept service by fax from a non-attorney, and that method can't be used to deliver papers to them.
