Rule 5-202 Authority.

This rule explains what the Judicial Ethics Committee is allowed to do. The committee's main job is to help judges understand what counts as proper conduct under the state's judicial ethics rules.

The committee can issue official opinions about whether certain judicial behavior follows the rules. To do this, more than half of the committee members have to agree on the opinion before it counts. This gives judges guidance on how to act in situations that might not be crystal clear from just reading the code.

The committee also has the power to suggest changes to the Nebraska Supreme Court. If the committee thinks a rule needs updating or fixing, it can recommend that change, but the Supreme Court is the one that actually decides whether to make it official.
