If everyone involved in a court case agrees, they can choose to have their trial handled outside the normal court process. This applies no matter how much money is involved in the case. Both sides, along with their lawyers, need to agree in writing to use this option and pick a specific judge to handle the trial and everything that happens afterward in the case.

To make this official, the written agreement must include the name of the judge both sides have chosen. It also needs to be signed by both the parties and their attorneys. Once signed, a copy has to be filed with the court and given to the judge who was originally assigned to the case. If the case involves an ADR commissioner, that person needs a copy too.

Basically, this rule gives people in a lawsuit more control over who decides their case. Instead of being stuck with whatever judge or process the court normally assigns, they can agree to bring in a different judge they trust to handle the trial from that point on.
