Rule 13 Continuances

Here's a plain English summary of this rule:

If you're part of a case in the Short Trial Program, you can't just push back your trial date whenever you want. The judge will only allow a delay if there's a good reason, and both sides agreeing to it can count as that reason.

To ask for a delay, you need to put your request in writing and give it to the short trial judge. Your written request has to explain exactly why you need more time. It also has to follow the local court rules for how these requests are formatted and filed.

If the judge agrees there's a good reason for the delay, they'll issue a new trial order with an updated date. That new date has to be one that the commissioner has approved. So even after the judge says yes, the new trial date still needs sign off from the commissioner before it's final.
