Rule 222 Purpose

Nevada's Supreme Court set up a special committee to help lawyers understand the rules of ethical conduct. This group is called the Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility. Its main job is to issue opinions that explain how ethics rules apply to real situations lawyers face.

The point of having this committee is to protect the public. When lawyers clearly understand what is and isn't ethical, they're less likely to make mistakes that could hurt their clients or others. The committee gives lawyers a way to get guidance before problems happen, instead of only dealing with ethics violations after the damage is done.

This rule doesn't create new ethics laws itself. Instead, it explains why the committee exists and what it's meant to do: give lawyers clear, timely answers about ethical questions so they can practice law the right way.
