Rule 242 Limitations (restricted access)

If a judge decides to keep print reporters out of a court proceeding, then all other types of news reporters (like TV or radio) must be kept out too. The judge can't allow one type of media in while banning another. Everyone in the news media gets treated the same way.

News reporters also don't get any special treatment compared to regular members of the public. If the public isn't allowed to see or hear something, reporters don't get extra access just because they work for a news outlet.

Finally, cameras and recording equipment can't be turned on during a break in court proceedings, like a recess. The judge has to give specific permission for that, and both sides' lawyers need to be told about it ahead of time. This keeps recording equipment from picking up things that happen when court isn't officially in session.
