Rule 3 Effect of rule and subdivision headings

Titles and headings you see above each rule or section are just there to help you find things quickly. They don't change what the rule actually says or means.

If there's ever a disagreement about what a rule means, you can't point to the heading as proof of one interpretation over another. The actual words written in the rule are what count. The heading is only a label, not a legal argument.

This matters if you're ever reading through court rules to understand your rights or obligations in a case. Don't assume a rule only covers what its title suggests. You need to read the full text of the rule itself to know what it truly requires, since the heading might be short or general while the rule covers more specific details.
