Rule 4:42-3 Declaratory Judgment

If you go to court asking a judge to officially declare your legal rights in a situation, the judge can still do that even if there is another way to solve your problem.

For example, if you want a court to declare that a contract means a certain thing, the judge does not have to refuse just because you could have sued for money instead. Both options can exist at the same time, and having one does not cancel out the other.
