Rule 1:19-6 Effect of Published Opinions

When the ethics committee publishes an official opinion, that opinion becomes a rule that the committee must follow going forward. This means the committee cannot contradict or ignore its own published opinions when handling new cases.

This protects people by making the committee's decisions consistent and predictable. If the committee has already published guidance on a topic, everyone can expect that same guidance to apply in similar situations.
