Children's court cases follow the same evidence rules used in other New Mexico courts. This means the same standards apply for things like what witnesses can say, what documents can be used, and what counts as proof.

There are some exceptions. If another law specifically says children's court should handle evidence differently, that other law takes priority. But unless a specific exception applies, judges, lawyers, and everyone else in the case can expect the regular rules of evidence to apply just like in any other courtroom.

This matters because it means children's court is not a place where evidence rules are relaxed or ignored. Parents, kids, and other people involved in these cases get the same protections around evidence that apply in adult court proceedings.
