If you want to appeal a decision made by the children's court, you can also ask the court to pause, or "stay," that decision while your appeal is being considered. This means the judgment won't be enforced right away, giving the appeal process time to play out.

To do this, you need to file a request called an "application for stay." This request has to be filed and delivered to the other parties following the steps laid out in Rule 12-206 NMRA. That rule explains the specific process and requirements you need to follow to properly ask for this pause.

In short, if you're appealing and don't want the judgment to take effect immediately, you must actively request a stay using the correct legal process. Simply filing an appeal does not automatically stop the judgment from being enforced.
