If someone has liability insurance, that fact usually can't be used as evidence in court to show they were careless or did something wrong. It could also unfairly influence a jury to rule against someone just because they had coverage.

That said, this evidence can come in for other reasons that don't involve proving fault. For instance, if a witness has ties to an insurance company, that fact might show the witness is biased. Insurance information can also help prove who owned or controlled a property or vehicle when that's a real question in the case.

So the key point is this: insurance details can't be used to argue someone acted wrongly, but they can be used for other legitimate reasons that come up during a trial.
