Rule 16-805 Disciplinary authority.

If you are a licensed lawyer here, you can be disciplined for your conduct no matter where it happens. It doesn't matter if you did something wrong in another state or even another country. Being licensed in this jurisdiction means you agree to follow its rules, and those rules can be enforced against you wherever your actions took place.

This rule also covers lawyers who are not licensed here. If an out-of-state lawyer offers or provides legal services in this jurisdiction, they can still face discipline here, even though they are not officially admitted to practice in this location. Simply doing legal work here, or offering to, is enough to bring them under these rules.

Finally, a lawyer's conduct might break the rules in more than one place at the same time. This means a lawyer could face discipline both here and in another jurisdiction for the exact same actions. Being punished in one location does not protect a lawyer from also being punished in another.
