§ 216-A Clerk of court

Every county's family court has a clerk of court. This person is in charge of keeping the court's official records safe and organized. The clerk also holds the court's seal, which is used to make documents official.

Beyond these basic duties, the clerk may have other jobs to do. These extra responsibilities come from a different law, called article seven-a of the judiciary law. If you need to get copies of court records or have questions about official court documents, the clerk of court's office is generally the place to go.
