§ 248 Appropriations

When a child in family court needs a lawyer, someone has to pay that lawyer's fees. This rule says the State of New York covers those costs, but only up to the amount of money the state has set aside for this purpose in its budget.

In simple terms, this means the state pays for children's attorneys, but the payments depend on available funding. If the budget runs out or is limited, that affects how much money is there to pay these lawyers. This rule doesn't guarantee unlimited funding. It just confirms that the state is responsible for these costs within whatever budget it approves each year.
