§ 580-101 Short title

This section simply gives a name to a group of laws. These laws are known as the "Uniform Interstate Family Support Act," or "UIFSA" for short.

UIFSA deals with child support and spousal support cases that cross state lines. If you need to set up, change, or enforce a support order and the people involved live in different states, this is the law that applies. New York uses this same name for its version of the law so it matches up with similar laws in other states, making it easier to handle support cases that involve more than one state.
