§ 580-303 Application of law of state

When a New York court handles a support case that started in another state, it treats the case the same way it would treat a similar case that started right here in New York. This means the New York court uses its own rules and procedures, just like it would for any local case. The court can use any legal tools or solutions it normally has available for these kinds of cases.

The New York court also decides how much support someone owes based on New York's own laws and support guidelines. So even though the case may have started somewhere else, once it reaches a New York court for action, New York law controls how much money is owed and how the support amount gets calculated.
