§ 580-317 Communications between tribunals

Judges in New York family court can talk directly with judges in other states about cases involving child support or family matters. They can use written records, phone calls, email, or other ways to communicate.

These conversations let judges share important information with each other. This includes explaining what the laws are in their state, what a court order actually means and does, and where a case currently stands in the legal process.

This works both ways. A New York judge can reach out to get information from a court in another state, and can also give that same kind of information when a court outside New York asks for it. This helps judges in different states stay on the same page when a family's case involves more than one state.
