§ 580-601 Registration of order for enforcement

If you have a child support order or income withholding order from another state, or a support order from another country, you can register it in New York so it can be enforced here. This means you don't have to start a whole new case to get support payments enforced. You simply take the existing order and file it with a New York court.

Once the order is registered, New York courts can treat it like a local order and use their enforcement tools to make sure payments happen. This helps people who move to New York, or whose ex-spouse or co-parent moves here, continue collecting support without extra legal headaches. It also helps when the person who owes support lives in New York but the original order came from somewhere else.
