§ 580-709 Partial enforcement

Here's a plain English summary of this rule.

If a New York court can't fully enforce a child support or spousal support order from another country under the Convention (an international agreement on support orders), it still has to enforce whatever parts of the order it can. The court can't just throw out the whole order because one part is a problem. It must look at the order piece by piece and enforce the parts that are valid.

This also means a person asking the court for help doesn't have to request enforcement of the entire order all at once. Someone can specifically ask the court to recognize and enforce just part of a support order, rather than the whole thing. This gives people more flexibility when dealing with support orders from other countries, especially if certain parts of the original order don't meet New York's legal standards but other parts do.
