§ 663 Guardian of person to file copy of order of appointment

When a court appoints someone to be the guardian of a child, that person doesn't just get verbal approval. The court has to actually issue official paperwork, called "letters of guardianship," once the guardian has been appointed and has met all the requirements to qualify for the role.

These letters act as legal proof that the guardian has the authority to make decisions for the child. Schools, doctors, government agencies, and other places may ask to see these letters before they'll deal with the guardian on the child's behalf. Without this official paperwork, the guardian may have a hard time proving they have legal authority over the child's care and decisions.
