§ 825 Issuance of summons

When someone files a petition with the family court, the court can respond by issuing a summons. This summons goes out along with a copy of the petition itself, so the other person in the case knows exactly what claims or requests are being made against them.

The summons tells the respondent (the person the petition is about) when and where to show up in court. Its purpose is to give that person official notice and a chance to answer the petition in person.

This step usually happens early in a case, right after the petition gets filed. It's how the court makes sure both sides know about the case and have a fair chance to be heard before anything moves forward.
