§ 101 Short title; how cited This act shall be known as the surrogate's court procedure act and may be cited as "SCPA"

This rule just gives the law its official name. In New York, the set of rules that covers what happens in Surrogate's Court is called the Surrogate's Court Procedure Act, or "SCPA" for short.

The rule also explains how people can refer to parts of this law. When someone points to a specific section, they can just use the number by itself. They don't need to write out the word "section" or use the "§" symbol before it. So if a document mentions "SCPA 101," that's the same as saying "Section 101 of the Surrogate's Court Procedure Act."

Finally, the rule clears up any confusion about what "article" or "section" means when it shows up in this law. Unless something says otherwise, any mention of an article or section is talking about a part of this same act, the SCPA, not some other law.
