§ 2508 Filing of will of decedent

If someone has died and had a will, the court in the county where that person lived (at the time of death) will accept and file that will. Anyone can bring the will to the court, and there's no fee to file it.

Once the court receives the will, the clerk writes down that it was filed and keeps it on record. The will then stays with the court unless a judge later orders something different, like releasing it or using it in a related case. This process makes sure there's an official, safe place to keep a person's will after they pass away, even before any formal probate case begins.
