Rule 67 Deposit into Court

When a lawsuit involves money or property that's being fought over, a party can place it with the court instead of holding onto it themselves. Before doing this, the party must tell all other sides involved and get the judge's permission. Once approved, the party gives the court clerk a copy of that approval along with the money or property.

This option is available even if the party making the deposit believes they're entitled to some or all of the money or property. It simply takes the disputed funds or item out of that party's hands while the case gets sorted out.

If money gets deposited with the court, it can't just sit there doing nothing. The court must put it into an account that earns interest, or invest it in some other interest-earning option that the court approves. This way, the money keeps growing while everyone waits for the case to be resolved.
