Rule 604 Interpreters

If you need an interpreter in court, that person must meet certain standards. They have to be qualified, meaning they must show they have the skills and knowledge needed to translate accurately, similar to how an expert witness must prove their qualifications.

The interpreter also has to take an oath or make a formal promise to give an honest and accurate translation. This means they are legally required to tell the truth, just like any other witness in court.
