§ 1107 Surety may sue principal for performance.

If you agree to act as a surety for someone (meaning you promise to cover their debt or obligation if they don't pay), you have rights too. Once that debt or obligation comes due, you can take the person you backed to court. You can sue them to make them pay off the debt or handle the obligation themselves, instead of leaving you stuck with it.

This protects people who co-sign loans or back someone else's financial promises. If the original debtor doesn't step up once payment is owed, the surety doesn't have to just wait and hope for the best. They can go to court and force the issue, making the principal debtor take care of what they owed in the first place.
