When a court decides that property needs to be divided among owners, it does not do the actual splitting itself. Instead, the judge picks three people, called commissioners, to handle this job. These commissioners are responsible for dividing the property into the correct number of parts.

The number of shares depends on how many people own the property and what portion each person is entitled to. For example, if three people each own an equal part of a piece of land, the commissioners would divide it into three roughly equal sections.

This step happens after the court has already decided that the property should be split up. The commissioners then step in to figure out the practical details of how to fairly divide the land or property so each owner gets their rightful share.
