§ 2106 Limited admissibility.

Sometimes evidence is allowed for one reason but not for another. It might be okay to use against one person in the case but not against someone else. Or it might be allowed to prove one point but not another point.

When this happens, a person involved in the case can ask the judge to limit how the jury uses that evidence. If someone makes this request, the judge must tell the jury exactly what the evidence can and cannot be used for.

This rule matters because it stops evidence from being used in unfair ways. For example, if a statement is only allowed to show someone's state of mind, the jury cannot also use it to decide whether that person actually did something wrong. The judge's instructions help keep the jury focused on the right question.
