§ 1065 Defendants may appeal jointly or severally.

If you're on trial with other people and something goes wrong, you don't have to wait for everyone else to agree before you appeal. You can appeal on your own, and so can any of the other defendants. Each person has the right to challenge the case by themselves, even if the others don't want to.

This also means that if one defendant decides to appeal and others decide not to, the ones who don't appeal won't be affected by that choice. Their case stays exactly as it is. The appeal only applies to the person or people who actually filed it. Everyone's outcome stays separate, even though they were tried together.
