§ 405 Allegation of time.

When someone is charged with a crime, the paperwork doesn't need to list the exact date and time the crime happened. Prosecutors can simply say the crime occurred sometime before the charges were filed, without pinning down a specific moment.

There's one exception to this rule. If timing is actually part of what makes the act a crime, then the exact time does need to be included. For example, if a law only makes something illegal during certain hours or on certain days, the charging paperwork must state that specific time because it's a key part of proving the offense.

For most crimes, though, the exact date and time don't matter much to the case. What matters is proving that the person committed the act described in the charges, not pinpointing the precise moment it happened.
