§ 440 Repeal of conflicting laws.

This rule simply cancels out any older laws that clash with the new rules being put in place. If an older law says something different or contradicts these new criminal procedure rules, the older law no longer counts. The new rules take over.

This kind of rule is common when lawmakers update or rewrite a set of laws. It cleans things up so there's no confusion about which rule to follow. People dealing with the court system only need to look at the current rules, not old laws that might say something different.
