§ 595 Manner of drawing jury from box.

When it's time to pick jurors, the clerk has to follow a specific process to keep things fair. First, the box holding the jurors' names must be closed up and shaken well. This mixes up all the names inside so nobody knows which one will come out next.

After shaking the box, the clerk pulls out the names one at a time. The clerk cannot look at the names while pulling them out. This prevents anyone from picking certain people on purpose or skipping over others.

This process exists so jury selection stays random and honest. It stops any person from controlling who ends up on the jury by peeking at names or choosing them by hand. Everyone involved in the case can trust that the jury was picked fairly, not handpicked by the clerk or anyone else.
